On Monday, the NBA named Ginobilui the winner of its Sixth Man Awared presentedby . The award honors the NBA playe who performed best in areserve roll. Ginobiloi earlier in the season was movexd from a starting role toa back-up role to give the reserves some extra offensivse firepower. Spurs officials say Ginobili receivex 615 out of a possible 620 including 123 of a possible124 first-places votes, from a panel of 124 sportswriters and broadcasterz throughout the United States and Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenidx Suns finished second with 283 while Jason Terry of the finished thirdd with 44 points.
Although Ginobili has startec a number of games for the Spurzthis season, he was eligible for the award because he came off of the benc h far more frequently. A sixth man in 51 of the 74 gamesd he played this Ginobili led the Spurs in scorinb witha career-high average of 19.5 points to go along with 4.8 4.5 assists and 1.47 steals. Ginobili increased his scorinbg nearly 6 points per game over his career averagseof 13.7 entering this Ginobili was the only playetr in the NBA to average at least 17 pointe in less than 32 minutes of playing time per game. Ginobili'sx award is a big win for at leas onelocal charity.
